New little feature: a multi-image gallery now features a little image count indicator.

Such a horizontally scrolling gallery is rendered, when an entry includes multiple images as enclosures, or they are added via the Media RSS extension. Example feed: Kenneth Wajda

You can now share posts in FeedCity.

Hit the green “Quote” icon and you’ll see the “Share” dialogue open. Write a note and hit “Share”.

Writing a note or comment is mandatory. I feel it’s often those personal comments that make sharing extra useful and/or interesting. It’s a “Quote-Post” not a “Re-Post”.

Webmentions

Just as with “Likes”, a webmention is sent for supporting websites (denoted by the orange webmention icon).

Bookmarklet

And of course there’s also a bookmarklet, with which you can share any website you’re currently visiting. You’ll find it - like all bookmarklets - on the “Add” page.

Following other citizens

You can follow any FeedCity citizen from their “shares” page 1. Here’s mine: https://feed.city/c/dan/shares. And anyone else with a feed reader can follow your shares, too. They just need add
.atom
or
.rss
to the URL and add this to their feed reader.

Happy sharing!

### Webmentions

Just as with ["Likes"](https://news.feed.city/2025/11/20/likes.html), a webmention is sent for supporting websites (denoted by the orange webmention icon).

### Bookmarklet

And of course there's also a bookmarklet, with which you can share _any_ website you're currently visiting. You'll find it - like all bookmarklets - on the "Add" page.

### Following other citizens

You can follow any FeedCity citizen from their "shares" page [^1]. Here's mine: [https://feed.city/c/dan/shares](https://feed.city/c/dan/shares). And anyone else with a feed reader can follow your shares, too. They just need add `.atom` or `.rss` to the URL and add this to their feed reader.

Happy sharing!

/Daniel

[^1]: You currently have to know the username of someone to be able to follow, as I haven't build the user-discovery part of this, yet.

I’ve been mainly working on behind the scenes improvements and streamlining the onboarding for new citizens in the last weeks.

But I’m back to making more day-to-day visible stuff. First up: the navigation on larger screens is back on the side again. I believe it’s a better placement, and I think it works with the current, slightly updated design.

There also have been some adjustments to the background: the clouds now stay fixed, even on iOS and iPadOS. And browser is now getting a starry night sky - where previously, this was only available in Safari (as this is the only browser supporting the new
random()
CSS function at the moment).

More updates soon.

FeedCity now has an updated logo icon. Here is the previous and the new icon side by side (the old one left/first):

It’s for sure an incremental update, but the larger RSS icon makes it a little more recognisable in small sizes. Plus, it looks a little more polished.

The site and its manifest.json file now also include a maskable version without the surrounding circle. This way, operating systems can crop or mask it as they see fit when installing FeedCity as an app (PWA), making the icon look more native to the platform.
(If you had FeedCity already installed as an app, you need to reinstall it to make the new icon show.)

This gives you another possibility to collect posts in a separate list.

### Webmentions

If you have a citizen name set, _and_ the site supports [Webmentions](https://indieweb.org/Webmention), FeedCity will also send this "Like" to the author of the article and/or site in form of a webmention.

Webmention support is now also indicated by the small orange "W"-sign next to each feed's name (if there's no icon, there's no Webmention support).

**Individual "Likes" are public**, so that the receiving site of the Webmention can verify it and has the ability to link back to it.

### Like any web page

[Just like with bookmarks](https://news.feed.city/2025/08/29/bookmark-anything.html), you can also "like" any web page. There's [a new bookmarklet available on the "Add" page](https://feed.city/feeds/new#bookmarklets) you can copy to your browser's toolbar. Tap/click this when you're on any website, and it will get added to your "Likes". If the site supports Webmentions, FeedCity will also sent one out.
### Misc

There's no public list of your "Likes" within FeedCity.

But like all lists, "Likes" also come with their own set of _private_ RSS and Atom feeds you can use to integrate in whatever workflow you want. You find all private feeds on [the "Account" page](https://feed.city/account).

In case you didn’t know, every feed has its own public profile page. And those have a new look: everything’s more organised and more information-dense. For people who have an account, there’s now a single row of buttons to do your subscribing/unsubscribing, favouriting, refreshing and list management.

The list management has been updated alongside, too: you can now add or remove a feed from all your lists in one go with a new modal UI.

      <source:markdown>In case you didn't know, every feed has its own public profile page. And those have a new look: everything's more organised and more information-dense. For people who have an account, there's now a single row of buttons to do your subscribing/unsubscribing, favouriting, refreshing and list management.

The list management has been updated alongside, too: you can now add or remove a feed from all your lists in one go with a new modal UI.

Here's some examples feed profiles:

* [FeedCity](https://feed.city/feed?url=https://news.feed.city/feed.json)
* [me](https://feed.city/feed?url=https://danielpietzsch.com/feed.atom)
* [Florian](https://feed.city/feed?url=https://florianziegler.com/feed)
* [Scripting News Podcast](https://feed.city/feed?url=http://scripting.com/podcast.xml)
* [Daring Fireball](https://feed.city/feed?url=https://daringfireball.net/feeds/json)
* [Manton](https://feed.city/feed?url=https://www.manton.org/feed.xml)
* [Tantek](https://feed.city/feed?url=https://tantek.com/updates.atom)

You can now bookmark any web page in FeedCity.

Regardless of whether its feed is already on FeedCity or not, and regardless of whether it has a feed at all. If it’s public, you can bookmark it.

It works with articles, podcast episodes, video pages, and any other public content.

Essentially, you can now use FeedCity as your “Read Later” service. This keeps your bookmarks all in one place, no matter where they came from.

To add a bookmark, you can use the provided bookmarklet or an iOS/iPadOS Shortcut. Find those on the “Add” page in FeedCity.

Underutilised Feed Data

A feed file - be it in RSS, Atom, or JSON format - can contain quite a bit of useful information. And I think this is underutilised by a lot of existing feed readers.

This is true for both feed level attributes as well as feed entry level attributes.

On the feed level, even simple and straight forward information like a
description
/
subtitle
or details about the
author
(s) are often ignored. And sure, there are more obscure attributes like
rights
/
copyright
or
generator
, which might not be as relevant. Nevertheless, all this information together adds up, and can really give a more comprehensive picture about a feed - if this data has been added by the publisher.

That’s why FeedCity has (public) “profile” pages for all feeds, displaying all this information.

And when you’re logged in, you also get a “Reply via Email” link under every entry, if its author has added this info to the feed (or an individual feed entry/item). This enables a simple, easy, and open comment system (others seem to agree).

And on the feed entry level, there’s an
enclosure
attribute for example, which often seems to get ignored: be it for “audio”-, “video”-, or even “image”-content. This seems to be forcing feed creators to stick everything into an
item
’s generic
content
attribute. Which is not wrong per se - and sometimes preferable even. But I think, if it’s in the spec, basic things like this should be shown by a feed reader.

And there are even more attributes that I didn’t mention, which could (and should) be utilised. FeedCity does not show all available information, yet, either. But I’m determined to change this bit by bit and render increasingly information-rich feeds and feed items/entries.

/Daniel

      <source:markdown>A feed file - be it in [RSS](https://www.rssboard.org/rss-specification), [Atom](http://www.atomenabled.org/developers/syndication/), or [JSON](https://www.jsonfeed.org/version/1.1/) format - can contain quite a bit of useful information. And I think this is underutilised by a lot of existing feed readers.

This is true for both _feed_ level attributes as well as feed _entry_ level attributes.

On the feed level, even simple and straight forward information like a `description` /`subtitle` or details about the `author`(s) are often ignored. And sure, there are more obscure attributes like `rights`/`copyright` or `generator`, which might not be as relevant. Nevertheless, all this information together adds up, and can really give a more comprehensive picture about a feed - if this data has been added by the publisher.

That's why [FeedCity](https://feed.city) has (public) "profile" pages for all feeds, displaying all this information.

And when you're logged in, you also get a "Reply via Email" link under every entry, if its author has added this info to the feed (or an individual feed entry/item). This enables a simple, easy, and open comment system ([others](https://florianziegler.com/journal/add-your-email-address-to-your-rss-feed) [seem](https://wordpress.org/plugins/rss-reply-via-email/) to [agree](https://github.com/Ranchero-Software/NetNewsWire/issues/4674)).

And on the feed *entry* level, there's an `enclosure` attribute for example, which often seems to get ignored: be it for "audio"-, "video"-, or even "image"-content. This seems to be forcing feed creators to stick everything into an `item`'s generic `content` attribute. Which is not wrong per se - and sometimes preferable even. But I think, if it's in the spec, basic things like this should be shown by a feed reader.

And there are even more attributes that I didn't mention, which could (and should) be utilised. [FeedCity](https://feed.city) does not show _all_ available information, yet, either. But I'm determined to change this bit by bit and render increasingly information-rich feeds and feed items/entries.
